Differences between rustic decor, shabby chic decor
Do you understand the differences between "rustic" or "log cabin" decor and the popular "shabby chic" decor? They are pretty obvious differences, based on the origins of the two styles of home decor and furnishings.
1. Shabby Chic Decor. This type of home decor and interior design has spread to entire levels and layers of use, from interior design to personal fashion. It originally was dominated by older furnishings usually painted white and "distressed" or made worn with sanding on the corners and edges. It came from the "shabby" or aging furnishings in old English estates and country houses. The style caught on because of the historic associations with Victorian England.
2. Rustic Log Cabin Decor. These furnishing and furniture developed exactly from that -- log cabins, frequently associated with the Western decor and Old West, pioneer periods of American expansion. The rustic decor and log cabin decor also became popular as people traveled and vacationed in mountain and wooded regions where lodges were built of logs and furnished with log and other rugged decor.
